target audience = objective

In the previous post,
we mentioned to go for line drawing style for our website.
mainly because its fun and functional as in communicating with our audience- young adults(18-25)
does it really works?as in line drawings.
to make it more convinced,
we did research on the Malaysia ads.
we came across these hotlink ads ,
they come out with really high-impact advertisements,
using simple line drawings to achieve the competence.
apparently they are targeted at the youths and young adults as well.

also, it looks clean which is good for a website
and basically its the simplicity that counts.
(that might projects the idea that we wanted to do and meets the characteristics of our audience)
for now,
we trying to have in-depth understanding of our audience
in order to create a common ground with them when they visit our website ;)

and we walked..and walked..and walked..and walked..

to get pics to be used on the site,
our group went on outings again! mwahahahahahaha~

and so we walked through KL Bird Park and Tasik Titiwangsa on Wednesday.

being at KL Bird Park. ...
we were at the WORLD'S LARGEST covered bird park, ok?
birds are awesome. especially peacocks.
those show-offs are pretty :P
there were so many tourists there
i felt as if im one of the tourist too. LOL

the road sign was fairly easy to spot (thank goodness)
the place gives good indication of direction to the places.

but oh.my.god. Titiwangsa. .... was an absolute killer.
it's huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggeee.
like, i know it's big. but i never knew it's THAT huge.

we basically got lost in there.
and it felt like it took us forever to come back out.
our legs nearly broke. hmm.

but they really have everything in there. totally cool.
and the sections are separated quite far apart
so you wont get disruptions from someone doing something else.
it's a good thing :D

but it's also cus the venue is so big..
we went one huuuuuuge round to look for the road sign. /faint

teehee :D

---
on Thursday. we went to Chinatown, Little India and Central Market.
we went around the world! :P
the places were fairly easy to capture.
maybe because we're getting a tad used to Petaling Street and Central Market
due to some previous projects relating to it.
though we're not really loving how our legs continue to break.

but Jalan Tun Sambanthan gave us a lil culture shock.
the place was under some major reconstruction
and Little India had some serious makeover O_O
but it looked pretty awesome and it's still as lively as ever ♥

this was one travel that made me feel that KL is huge.
do not underestimate the little spot of KL on the map.
it's big, okay? very big.

we were supposed to go out on Friday too, actually.
to KLCC and the Golden Triangle.
and then we realised. ... it's Christmas Eve.
the place will be so packed that it'll b near impossible to take pics we wish for.
and the danger of possible snatch thieves&pickpockets on such a festival... for sure.

so it got postponed to Monday.

wow. Merry Christmas to us.

Discussions

Over the holidays...

We went to places for discussions, such at coffee houses, research sites, and random places like in the monorail. Recently, we went over to YinTeng's house to draw and confirm stuff regarding the web layouts.

*draw draw draw*

sketches sprawling all over the floor

We had some flash tryouts done and discussed upon what to do next. We also finalised our outline concept, with a simple and clean outlook. After all, less is more :D

Trying to be Cupid

Forcing HTML into Flash is like dragging the horse to the water...

.... you won't get any results unless you know what you're doing!

Earlier in the week, we came up with this idea about embedding Google Map on to our website so that the users can view it and know exactly how to get to a destination. That idea was so brilliant, the minute I got home, I immediately went and Googled on how to do it.

After countless hours and days of research, trying out with Actions, Variables, Dynamic Text, etc etc ... it was then I came to a conclusion that it's near impossible for newbies like us to do such a complex thing... unless you're using Actionscript 3.0..... or that you are God.

We are using Actionscript 2.0.

*cries*

Nevertheless, we shall never give up! Worse come to worst, we'll think of an alternative way.. *avoiding Dreamweaver's stare* Sigh... the idea was so cool... I wish we have more time to explore with Flash.

feel the street!

flashback to 5th of december!

weee. we actually went to kinokuniya klcc to have a look and get some inspiration.

discovery of KL

we didnt get it though cause it cost like 20 bucks or so.expensive~~~
and stumbled upon this magazine 'KLUE`
which we find it really inspiring to our project..
it cost only like 5 bucks ;D
so we grab it home as part of our research ;)

front cover of the magazine

apparently, this maganize covers alot of the highlights, hot spots in the city! from entertainment to nightlife to food..music and arts basically,we are inspired by this front page where people might live on the entirely planet altogether, but sharing the same view of the city as you do! ......thats how our idea of ROADSIGNS in kl came from ;D some photos of the content..

-it has been awhile

i struggled to get internet ok?
like, finally got some at this hour.
hehe :D

so .. in the middle of the night.
blasting some songs.
looking back at what we discussed today.
and attempting to finalise the drawing of
the website layout, the intro page, pages of the subjects, etc.
it's us with our line drawing style for the website.
simple. fun. interactive. functional.

because our set target audience are
students that are new to KL (18-25years old)

sowe basically have something that's more simplistic&mature
.... but still fun approach.
to connect to the child in them (and ourselves), yeah?
ahh~ the simple joys in life ;D

OKAY! BACK TO DRAWING.
cus im starting to get drowsy.

running on free wifi

yay! group discussion outside!!~
and there's free WIFI. mwahahahahahaha :DD
i have been Internet-deprived for the past week
and down with fever, flu, cough and sore throat.
common illness, you name it, i got it.

we, from the 3 corners of Selangor have finally united.
since i missed the last tutorial, Mei and Tzepei will brief me in more detail
on how did the tutorial went and what changes&consideration we have to include.

also, i have a few idea generations on how the website will be animated,
(i looked through a book on d variety of website designs
and remind myself of the websites i hv seen, &stuffs that makes me think)
then Mei have her Jalan Alor trip to tell us about,
and Tzepei with more(!) research to back us up.

So we'll be discussing and deciding all the details to our website today.
.... and stealing this shop's wifi. (because when i go home, no more internet....again)

Who? What? Where? How???

think think think...
who's our target audience?
what's our intention doing this website?
what are the reasons for them to stop and stare at our website?
a reason for them to stay longer...(research research research)

well,basically,
what we'd been doing so far ...
digging everything out of the web.
gathering infomations,figuring what's workable..
and come out with a firm conclusion.
for instance,
famous streets in kl that really really really....distinctive that cannot be missed!
the key word ; ATTRACTIONS in KL.
to be speciific, LEISURE in KL.
hopefully, we're running on the right track.!* chants *
ahhh of course, to start off,a mind map is a must ! ;)
A general mindmap of the topic we are doing
and streets available in kl that holds attention!

Getting to know Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks

We were really excited when we heard we get to FINALLY learn Adobe Fireworks, Dreamweaver and last but not least.... FLASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :D :D

But having to learn all those is just mere 4 3-hour-workshops is kind of a downer. With limited time, Ms Ruby had to cram everything in each workshop.... we would like to thank her for being so patient with us as we were so new to these programs.

Out of the programs, we found that Flash is the most interesting one and we have decided to go with that to create our website.

Trying it out whenever I have time, Flash is.... fun! Hope to have a proper day to really try it out to make something interesting for our project :)

we're in trouble!

okay, so there was a change of idea since thursday.
after the first tutorial with mr.Peter Wong,
we realise that our idea of doing the KL Monorail trail ... isn't a very good idea.

after some brainstorming again with the group
and constant pestering of our tutors,
we have come to a solution of doing famous streets of Kuala Lumpur.
(like yeah, KL street signages are so KL)
and we're focusing on the the side of leisure!
which covers the areas of food, shopping and entertainment :D

... well, it's a new start.
and it's a busy week.
sudden packed class schedules. o_o;;
like. classes. EVERYDAY!!
how the heck are we gonna go out for photos&field research?
i have no freaking idea. /cries

and im shifting houses ... like. right now.
wrong time to move to a new house mom&dad. very wrong.

-goes back to packing seemingly endless stuffs-

oh gosh. i hope we'll ring it round well.

searching for inspiration

First group outing! :D Yay!

We went to Bukit Bintang area yesterday,
figuring the fact that it's the heart of the city of Kuala Lumpur
it's definitely fitting of the project there.
Checking that the title of the project is Visual Language - Signs in the city
it's just right that we go into the city to find signs right? :P

Christmas decorations were up in the malls~
our mission was basically distracted because of them!
I couldn't resist getting group pictures utilising christmas tree balls :D

from left to right: Mei Yuin, Tze Pei, Yin

There's so many things that are in the city,
that it had got us quite a few running inspirations!
We tried to focus on the stuffs that lies around in the city,
things that are quite distinctively shout "city"
but yet goes on unnoticed or disregarded.

 ahh~ hardworking members :D

We walked all around the Bukit Bintang area.
Making shopping malls as destination stops,
we went through KLCC, Pavilion, Sungei Wang and Times Square.
And it was in between the walks that we started picking up
all these things along the streets
that had made us think could be made into the project.

Ideas ran from the  megastructure that is symbolic of Kuala Lumpur,

the buildings in city;
this is the Petronas Twin Towers!

Mannequins are interesting too, right?

.. and then there's the different patterns of sidewalks in KL

and the arrows on the roads;

the stickers, advertisements (typography) on the streetlights;

the multiple lines of trains and public transport in the city;

and those staircases that brings you to all the different places;

street signboards;
interesting use of N there~

and the road signs;

to small things like trash left on the sidewalks;

 and there were observations on
the different lamp post designs, phone booths and even bus stops!

Now now now, settle down. What should we be doing eh?
